iPic Luxury theater will soon open at the Intracoastal Mall
A new iPic luxury movie theater that allows patrons to dine on
gourmet food and cocktails at their plush seats will open next year in
North Miami Beach, in the space of the now-shuttered Intracoastal 8.
Beginning next year, movie-goers in North Miami Beach will be able to
sip cocktails and order gourmet food as they watch a new release,
wrapped in blankets in cushy, reclining leather chairs.
Boca Raton-based iPic Theaters said it has signed a lease with South
Florida developer Dezer Development to build a new eight-screen,
40,000-square-foot luxury movie theater in North Miami Beach’s
Intracoastal Mall.
“The level of luxury that is associated with the iPic theaters will
further complement the Eastern Shores lifestyle options that will be
located now in the Intracoastal Mall,” said Michael Dezer, chief
executive of Dezer Development, which has holdings in New York, Florida,
and Las Vegas, and says it is the largest oceanfront property owner in
Sunny Isles Beach, with more than 27 oceanfront acres.
Dezer, whose firm paid $63.5 million for the Intracoastal Mall, said
he is in the midst of upgrading and renovating the property, with plans
to bring in a branch of Epicure Market as well as international and
national high-end retail tenants. The shopping center, on Northeast
163rd Street, currently has 234,000 square feet of restaurants and
shops, including T.J. Maxx, Winn-Dixie and Dollar Store.
The mall’s new iPic Theater will be built on the site of the
now-shuttered Intracoastal 8 theater, which will be gutted and
renovated, Dezer said. Construction is set to begin within three months,
and the theater is slated to open in early 2015.
iPic Entertainment President and Chief Executive Hamid Hashemi was out
of the country this week but said in a statement that “the residents of
North Miami Beach, Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach demand the very best,
and we know they will embrace the style, affinity and luxury that iPic
Theaters has to offer.”
At the Intracoastal Mall, the new theater will offer the option of
“Premium” or “Premium Plus” seating. Premium seat ticket-holders will
relax in large, plush leather seats and may purchase their chef-driven
food and beverage directly from purveyor Tanzy Express, and carry it
into the theater to enjoy at their seat. Premium-Plus seating features
reclining, oversized leather chairs, pillows and blankets, and
individual service-call buttons that summon servers who deliver
signature dishes or hand-crafted cocktails from Tanzy Express.
Ticket pricing has not been determined yet. iPic also has a theater
in Boca Raton, where prices range from $12 to $14 for Premium Seating
and $18 to $24 for Premium Plus Seating, the company said.
“This will actually transform the movie experience into an ultimate
night out,” Dezer said. “Now, you go to the movie and have popcorn, and
you go. This is a whole different experience.”
The new iPic North Miami Beach will feature eight auditoriums, each
seating 50 to 90 movie-goers. All auditoriums will be equipped with 4K
digital cinema technology, and seats can be reserved ahead of time on
iPic’s proprietary reservation system on www.ipic.com, or on an iPic
App.
iPic North Miami Beach said its gourmet dining concept will be headed
by Chef Sherry Yard, corporate vice president of culinary direction for
iPic Entertainment, and mixologist and master sommelier Adam Seger.
Yard, recently named among the “Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in
America” by the prestigious James Beard Foundation, has served as
executive pastry chef at Wolfgang Puck’s empire for nearly 20 years.
In addition to developing the Tanzy Express menu for iPic North Miami
Beach, Yard and Seger will also be part of a new iPic-owned restaurant
concept near the theater at the Intracoastal Mall. The restaurant is
expected to open in the next few months, Dezer said.
The new luxury theater is the first of three iPic Theaters currently
under development in the greater Miami area, though the company declined
to disclose the other sites. iPic currently operates a luxury theater
in Boca Raton, and is planning to open another, in Delray Beach, next
year.
Established in 2006, iPic Theaters currently operates 10 locations in
Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin
and has new theatres planned for California, New Jersey, Texas,
Philadelphia, and New York, in addition to those in South Florida
