Years ago, South of Aventura, on Biscayne Blvd., I used to
take my boat for service at a shop in the Maule Lake Marina.
It was a large place with lots of docks, slips, boat
storage; my boat mechanic happened to have his shop at the Marina.
Most of the time I would reach it by water. On my boat, going South, about a quarter mile
before reaching the then called Shooters waterfront cafe (now Duffy's), at the 163 street bridge, there
is a canal on the right (west) side of the Intracoastal.
A couple of blocks bordering some homes and you would be on open waters: Maule Lake. We would often water-ski on the lake, or throw
a fishing line for the kids, or just anchor the boat to enjoy the quiet waters at the sunset.
On the West edge of the lake was the large Maule Lake marina.
Years passed; my mechanic moved out of the marina, my kids grew
up, but I still navigated the canal close-by on my way to Bakers-Haulover inlet which is the
point I use to head offshore.
On its Biscayne Blvd. front, there was an outdoor furniture store right
next to it. It’s gone now. Not that
it was such a great view, but I had grown used to seeing the hundreds of boats
of all sizes around the docks or on trailers. I think that US customs stored on the site some seized vessels going to auction.
A little more than a year ago I noticed that something was
going on and then there was a large sign announcing a waterfront construction.
And I realized that the land would be used for residential homes.
I remember that the first thing that came to my mind was that whoever
owned the land had a great idea. Right on Biscayne Boulevard, where no one expects
to sea water, there was the open bay, and you could now see what was actually water and
the Maule lake.
Whatever is your idea about developing Miami, anything that
means a sensible usage of the waterways makes me happy.
Miami has this incredible network of canals, lakes and all
kind of waterways that is almost unique for a large city. If you have lived here and never took a ride
on a water taxi, enjoyed a drink and a sandwich on a friend’s boat,
....or hopped at a waterfront bar for a icy beer and some greasy fried appetizers; if you haven’t gone around admiring the mansions seen from the canals, or woken up early and headed out half asleep to try for some snapper or Spanish mackerel, then you haven’t really lived here.

And
if you can do it from the backyard of the place where you live, then you should
bless the day you arrived here.
Marina Palms is somehow one of the versions of this dream. A couple of buildings with all the bells and whistles of modern luxury, resting on a lake, with close ocean access.
Large apartments with magnificent views and all you can think of in terms of amenities and lavish comfort. And all this in a quiet but so desirable area, steps from Aventura, its full-time shopping, some of the best restaurants and bars in Miami, a few minutes from the classy Bal Harbour, the Atlantic Ocean beaches, the new neighborhoods of Midtown, and the Arts District, casinos, racetracks and shopping centers.
But then again, it’s always the closeness of the water what
captivates me.
At its price level, it might very much become my top choice over
most of the new construction in the territory between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
